Program Records Retention and Disposition Schedules for State Agencies
Introduction to Records Schedules
The General Schedule for State Agency Records addresses records commonly found in agencies throughout state government, provides uniform descriptions and disposition instructions, and indicates minimum retention periods. Records listed on the General schedule may not be transferred to the State Records Center without a specially-granted exception. Therefore, it must be used in conjunction with a Program Records Retention and Disposition Schedule.
The Standard Disposition Instructions for Reports Generated by the North Carolina Accounting System (NACS) are maintained by the Office of the State Controller. All printed reports generated by NCAS may be destroyed in accordance with this schedule.
Your program records disposition schedule lists those program-specific records maintained in your office as reported to the Division of Historical Resources. Official, signed copies of all schedules are maintained by the Government Records Branch. It lists only those records that are unique to your office, whether they are to be destroyed in your office or transferred to the State Records Center. When changes to the program schedule are required, complete a copy of the Public Series Listing Form, and submit it to your Records Management Analyst.
Reference copies of the following schedules are available electronically in Adobe Acrobat format (*.pdf), but represent only a portion of schedules filed by state agencies. You must have version 5.0 or higher of Acrobat Reader to view these forms.
